Warm Vintage, some rain during the season. Generally even. Those who waited were rewarded.
The wine was made from low yielding Cabernet Sauvignon (15yrs old) and Merlot (9 years old).
All the grapes were handpicked and transported in bins to the winery. Upon arrival the grapes were cooled down to 15 degrees Celsius and hand sorted. Alcoholic fermentation was done in small stainless steel tanks over 10 days. After an additional three weeks of skin contact the wine was racked to 225 litre French barrels., 70% new the rest 2nd fill.

Malolactic fermentation occurred naturally in barrel. The wine was racked every three to four
months before the final blend was made in November. The blended wine was then racked back
to barrels for further wood maturation giving a total of 20 months. The wine was bottled without
further fining or filtration.

The wine is classical and is marked by a spicy black berry mineral nose. It is a rich wine with good weight structure and balance, touch of vanilla, freshness, though intense. Cassis flavours come through with velvety cherry tobacco tones. The tannins are firm. Epicurean is a vineyard wine.
